WRRC Invites Proposals for 2023 Annual Conference
The University of Arizona Water Resources Research Center invites proposals for conference presentations and posters for its 2023 Annual Conference, What Can We Do? Solutions to Arizona’s Water Challenges. Proposals should offer solutions to the pressing water resource challenges currently facing Arizona and the region. Drought in the Colorado River Basin may be foremost on many people’s minds, but beyond this critical challenge, the pressures of growth and climate change continue to be troubling. For some, securing the next bucket of water is vital, while others focus on conservation. At the local scale, water contamination and groundwater overdraft are key issues, while some communities lack basic access to safe and adequate water service. The natural environment in many areas is threatened by drought and competing water uses, farmers are tasked with increasing water efficiency, and cities need effective strategies to ensure continued water security and reliability.
The WRRC 2023 Annual Conference will be held July 11 – 12, 2023, at the University of Arizona Student Union Grand Ballroom in Tucson, AZ. Proposals are invited for 10- to 15-minute Oral Presentations, 5- to 7-minute Highlight Talks, and Posters. Prizes will be awarded for the best student posters. Visit the WRRC website to view the Call for Proposals.
By focusing on solutions, the WRRC hopes to bring forward promising ideas to address these challenges. Proposals for conference presentations and posters may focus on any one or combination of topics, including but not limited to supply, quality, environmental, agricultural, economic, or justice. Proposed solutions may be hard (e.g., technology, infrastructure) or soft (legal/institutional, financial/economic, social/cultural), specific or conceptual, small scale (e.g., community or household) or large scale (e.g., state, region, nation, globe), innovative/pie-in-the-sky or proven/time-tested. The WRRC Conference Advisory Committee will develop the conference program to reflect the range of solutions proposed.
The submission deadline is February 21, 2023, at 11:59 pm MST. Stay tuned to the Weekly Wave in the coming weeks for more conference updates, including sponsorship opportunities. Please email any questions to jessiehampton@arizona.edu.
