WRRC Requests Input for Upper Verde Watershed Water History Timeline

On March 12 and 13, 2025, members of the Prescott and Chino Valley communities braved the sleet, wind, and snow to share their experiences and knowledge of the Upper Verde Watershed. These two participatory workshops were part of a joint effort by the WRRC, Yavapai County Extension, and The Nature Conservancy to create an interactive StoryMap illustrating the history of the Upper Verde Watershed. As members of these communities, workshop attendees shared their personal memories of the watershed, recollections of significant drought or flood events, and information on the development of water infrastructure and notable policies relevant to the watershed. Participants were prompted to share their knowledge since time immemorial through present day. Staff members from the WRRC and Yavapai County Extension learned a great deal from listening to the members of each community.
Have you experienced living, working, or recreating in the Upper Verde Watershed? Do you know something about the area’s unique history? If you would like to add your stories to those of workshop attendees, we would very much like to hear from you! Respond to the survey linked below to submit your own recollections to the StoryMap project.
