Paper by Simone Williams Featured as the Journal Water Cover Story
The cover story of a Special Issue of the journal Water (Vol. 16, Iss. 23 December-1 2024) features a paper written by Simone Williams, titled "Equity Assessment of Groundwater Vulnerability and Risk in Drinking Water Supplies in Arid Regions." Williams worked as a Graduate Research Associate at the WRRC from 2020 until 2024 while pursuing her PhD in Arid Lands Resource Sciences at the U of A. In her recently published paper, which was based on her dissertation research, Williams and her coauthors, including WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal, explore the socioeconomic and racial disparities in groundwater contamination levels of arsenic and nitrate in the southwestern United States.
After receiving her PhD this past summer, Williams began her new role as a Water Policy Analyst at the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association (AMWUA) in Phoenix, AZ. She brings a global perspective to AMWUA, drawing from her extensive experience in natural resources management and sustainable development across the Caribbean and US.
