TAAP Presented in SNRE 50th Anniversary Webinar
A presentation on the Transboundary Aquifer Assessment Program (TAAP) by WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal was featured at the 50th anniversary celebration of the U of A School of Natural Resources and Environment (SNRE) on October 9. The presentation covered the history of TAAP, its accomplishments since authorizing legislation was passed by the US Congress in 2006, and lessons learned through the years. Megdal emphasized efforts to nurture cooperation and collaboration to increase knowledge of transboundary aquifers, particularly the Santa Cruz and San Pedro aquifers shared by Arizona and Sonora, MX. She highlighted the important role of the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) and suggested that the TAAP process could be a model for working across borders on scientific understanding of shared water resources. Her talk included references and links to multiple publications relating to TAAP, its implications for other regions, and water diplomacy generally. She also introduced (or reintroduced) the WRRC and its many programs and resources, including the Weekly Wave, to the webinar audience. A video recording is posted at SNRE Seminar Sharon Megdal (panopto.com).
