WRRC Director Participates in International Water Policy and Governance Meetings

On June 1, 2012, the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) sponsored Expert Workshop on Water Security: Managing Risks and Tradeoffs in Selected River Basins was held In Paris, France.  With increased urbanization and demand for food and energy, securing sufficient and safe water for humans and nature seems more crucial than ever. The workshop focused on risk tradeoffs of water shortage, excess and pollution, and maintenance of acceptable level of risks to people, environment and economies. Dr. Sharon Megdal participated as rapporteur for the workshop and presented the concluding wrap-up, summarizing the day’s discussion, highlighting key policy issues, and charting the way forward.

In addition, Dr. Megdal was invited to talk on scientific cooperation in water sciences at a UNESCO sponsored meeting on June 4, 2012: Science, Networks, Consciousness in the Mediterranean Basin.  The invitation recognizes Dr Megdal’s work in the eastern Mediterranean, where her focus is fostering scientific cooperation for solving the problems of water resource management in the region.
