The Arizona Project WET (APW) Flagstaff Water Festival Program has been awarded a generous grant from the Arizona Community Foundation (ACF) of Flagstaff. The highly successful water festival event is held each September, and the City of Flagstaff has a long-term investment in this program. The additional sponsorship from ACF will allow APW to expand its reach and serve more students, including those in charter schools.

The WRRC’s 2022 Fall Semester Brown Bag Webinar series kicked off on August 24 with a presentation on the Arizona Water Factsheet initiative, focusing on the recently published Pima County Water Factsheet. The presentation featured WRRC Program Manager Michael Seronde and Kathy Chavez, water policy manager at the Pima County Office of Sustainability and Conservation.

On August 8, Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema announced the creation of her new Water Advisory Council to “develop solutions in response to Arizona’s worsening drought conditions.”

After Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Camille Touton’s Senate testimony in June, the Colorado River Basin states had until Monday, August 15 to reach an agreement to save two to four million acre-feet of water in 2023, or Reclamation would take action to preserve the system. 

Following Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) Commissioner Camille Touton’s June 14 presentation to the US Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee, the Colorado River Basin states have been working to develop plans to conserve two to four million acre-feet of water in 2023 to maintain critical water levels in Lake Powell and Lake Mead.

The WRRC’s 20th Annual Conference, Arizona's Agricultural Outlook: Water, Climate, and Sustainability, took place on July 12-14 and presented many unique perspectives on current and future agricultural water use. 

The Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) have both recently released interactive online resources that may be of interest to water experts and members of the public alike. 

Our forests are beautiful places where we can experience the richness of nature. They provide us with lumber, and they protect our water and air. Some say that the forests are the lungs of the Earth. But today's forests also encounter many wildfires and challenges that lead to poor health. Why does this happen, and what can we do about it? The answers are IN the forest.

They could have been sitting by the pool reading a book or relaxing at a cabin in the mountains. Instead, several teachers chose to spend part of their summer with Arizona Project WET (APW), deepening their water content knowledge to share with students this coming school year.
