“The Power of Perspective” was the theme that inspired a series of posters by middle and high school teachers now on display at the Water Resources Research Center. The teachers were participating in the Laurel Clark Earth Camp for Educators, a program developed and implemented through the cooperation among the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, WRRC’s Arizona Project WET and Planetary Science Institute. The Power of Perspective posters tell stories of environmental change due to seasonal, decadal and longer-term processes such as the summer monsoon, the El Niño-Southern Oscillation, urban growth, fire, mining and water use. All of these forces acting on our region are evident in NASA Landsat satellite images from the last few decades.
In addition to the Educators program, the Earth Camp experience is provided to middle school and high school students through summer camp programs. Earth campers work in teams to develop awareness and understanding of our planet's ecosystems and how to better live in harmony with the natural world.
